If your in Sydney between 4 Nov – 11 Dec, get on over to Paste Modernism 3 an amazing installation of paste ups by urban artists over at Cockatoo Island in the harbour. There is going to be a massive collage combining the work of over two hundred and sixty street artist’s from both Australia and overseas coordinated by Ben Frost. By the way there is also a bunch of other urban art exhibitions going on within the whole island as part of the Outpost project. One not to be missed!
Above is a picture of the paste ups starting to be set up for the exhibition, including one of my ‘Think Tank’ stencil produced paste ups (On the brown paper). I pinched one of the photos (I hope Ben doesn’t mind…all in the spirit of plugging the event!), from the Stupidkrap flickr or you can find out further info on the Paste Modernism site. Also i think after the event they will probably be selling cut down sections from the pasted collage to raise money for charity, last year it helped raise money for those impacted on by the floods in Queensland. So be sure to keep an eye on the Stupidkrap website if you like the work of any of the artists listed below…and what is not to like, there are some amazing names below!

Fuck this shit, my mate FUKT went out there with a massive paste up and was told by Ben Frost it was to big, that people like eine, jumbo zap etc. were to important and he should step aside. Maybe if people were more professional, instead of posting wall sizes on the website that dont even exist, then I might have attended this event.
Hmm…
I’m from outer town so ain’t seen any of the politics. Ben has been fine in my dealings. Anyway its a shame your mates work didn’t get in, just checked out some of their stuff online and they looked cool. I say props for Ben for putting it on, and if your mate didn’t get in…well the street has no restrictions(assuming you don’t get caught!) for who is included, so they should just keep it real and just get up outside of the galleries…thats what i would do.
Ben made it clear to all involved that large pieces were to be pasted on the first day of pasting and smaller works would follow. Your mate Fukt would have received the emails. It’s been a massive task curating such a large amount of artists and the result is incredible. Your loyalty is admirable and it seems your feelings are really hurt but you’ll look back once it’s over and feel like an idiot for not attending…
I agree Ben. Without a doubt the whole project is a massive undertaking by those involved…and they all deserve huge credit. Especially Ben Frost for instigating it. I guess there is always a bit of politics when many sensitive artists get together in one place to do a project. Shame that happens i guess…but none the less the installation looked awesome!
Emails etc stated that there was a 100m of walls at 4.5m high. Fukt is putting it up on the street anyway, that’s basically the only place you’ll never see Ben frost. Big congrats to Ben for organizing this event so he can maintain the look of a credible street artist. Loved the mural he did out there, another example of Ben been a snake, the hipster art club may love him but most street based artists want to knock him out.
Ps is it true he hires first year art students to illustrate some of his wor?
Hey Jamie,
I guess in the end you can’t please everyone. I think if Fukt is now putting the pasties up in the street thats a great outcome as that is where they belong most of all. As for the stuff about Ben…I don’t know much about him or the situation, but people say the same about Shepard Fairey these days but i don’t think it makes him less relevant. I guess my point is don’t worry about what someone else is or isn’t doing. Don’t waste your energies on it…who is and isn’t really street enough, I’m sure the old school writers would say all the so called ‘street art’ is crap…not real graff. Anyway, This all becomes destructive not creative. Don’t get caught up in the politics…politics is boring! I say just do your thing and time to move on.
