I just recieved news confirming that i have my artist books/zines being included in an exhibition this September at Monash University in Melbourne. The exhibition and and the accompanying publication is going to be called, The Silent Scream: political and social comment in books by artists. The exhibition is a joint project between Monash University Rare Books Library (http://www.lib.monash.edu.au/rare/) and the Bibliotheca Librorum apud Artificem (http://www.bibliotheca.org.au) a private collection of precious books based in New South Wales by Monica Oppen.

It’s pretty exciting news, and it feels good to have the books considered within a conceptual context…so stay tuned for further information later in the year.

ps- Below is my latest artist book just out.

This weekend was the “I am Typewriter” festival and zine fair. The fair presented by Sticky Institute was in the degraves street underground and saw a large number of both stall holders(Over 40 tables!) and audience. I shared a table with David of Field Study, and combined we moved a descent amount of alternative and small press publications. The day saw the first outing for my new sticker packs, Sample/New World Order/Dismay zines and a bunch of new badge designs. The audience were great, i met a bunch of great new crew and overall the day was a huge success.

I have been busy, busy…busy over the last week or so.

I have not had much time for making art due to my day job being at its busiest peak and having a big design project on taking up most nights till late. I will reveal further details on this a bit closer to time as it is a cool gig. I have however made a new zine called Dismay as part of the research i was doing into making a book/poster for the design project i just mentioned…so that was fun.

Also my other zine End Game is now in stock and available at Sticky Institute!

I did manage to find the time to make it to the Everfresh launch and collect my copy of their new book. It’s very cool so if Melbourne street art is your thing, do yourself a favour and head on over to their site and check it out.

And finally just for fun, here is a pic of some crazy kids i came across on the tram the other night.

Oh…and i also found a spare few hours to get to the Mike Parr talk at ACCA. Interesting talk…different to what i a was expecting but enjoyable all the same…and btw the dude is very smart. Later days…

Enjoy!

Well, its been an interesting few days. I have made a new small Mash Up Zine playing with the idea of reintroducing the artists hand into a photocopied zine to embody it with a bit more ownership and value…Think the Artist’s mark versus Art in the age of mechanical reproduction.

Zine – End Game available soon from Sticky Institute in Melbourne.

Small hand sprayed edition of 20

…so keep your eyes peeled as they will go quick!

Exhibition – I also was lucky enough to get one of my paintings selected for the Sweet Streets street art exhibition coming up in Melbourne this October. It wasn’t the work I was hoping was selected, but getting a work on the wall is all the same at the end of the day. Anyway, to find out more about whats on during the festival follow the sweet streets link above.

Mail – Today I received a few awesome paste ups from the crew over at UK based Prefab77. The pasters will be hitting the streets of Melbourne soon, maybe during Sweet Streets…so keep your eyes peeled.

Or go visit their site and see their awesome art >>

Old Friends – I caught up with Mel Kerr, a Melbourne artist and an old friend of mine this week at her studio. Her work inspired by suburban interiors and urban exteriors blends fine art beautifully with inspiration from street art.

So go check her art out here >>

Copyright Breach – And the final bit… not as fun as the rest above, is today when I went to log into ebay I found one of my t-shirt designs for sale on ebays front page from a seller/company over in Thailand. The funny thing is, that its not even a particularly good design of mine. They had also ripped a few from mechline, and a few others designers also. I guess if you look at it one way its flattering. But if you look at it another way it just pisses you off.

Anyway, at least I can say things are never boring!

Enjoy,

No Frills

New Book – Fast Food for Thought

My new books just arrived this week, and saw their first outing at the Festival of the Photocopier – Zine Fair. They were well recieved and a I moved a few copies which was exciting. The zine fair originally planned for the City Square was shifted underground to the Degraves Underpass on Flinders Street due to Melbournes unpredictable weather. Weather and relocating issues aside, we still saw a full house in terms of crowds which was great, and there was a really good vibe for the event.

Fast Food for Thought – 32 pg Full Colour Perfect Bound Book

–  Over 25 Full Page Colour Plates

– Introduction/Interview by Danny Nolan

– Artist’s History (CV)
