Here is a little shot(using my new toy…Fisheye lens!) of my work in situ at Boom Gallery as part of the Forest-s Exhibition put together by Tibor Novak. The opening was a full house…which was a surprise for a saturday arvo opening…but always a good thing! The show is on for a few weeks so if your in Newtown, pop in and have a browse as it is a pretty expansive show with a variety of artists and styles.

And below is a close up of my artwork in the show…

Fractals, Mixed Media on Canvas. 2012

And finally…a sneak peak at another one of the artworks for my exhibition in November at Boom Gallery…Enjoy! NF

For part of earth hour last week a bunch of us got together with the Geelong Arts Alliance to work on the ‘Earth Hour Landing Strip’. Basically the strip was a candle powered faux landing strip using discarded cans with corporate images punctured into them and a tea light inside them. About sixty or seventy lanterns were made by those involved.

Top(l-r): Row of cans, Illuminati Mickey(No Frills)

Bottom(l-r): Grenade(Field Study), and

overview of the landing strip with trolley on the runway.

And below are a couple of new works for my show in November…Enjoy!

Well the new year is well and truly upon us. It has now been about six weeks since i fractured the arm, and although not quite right(rotation hurts and there is no strength as yet)…It is feeling heaps better. The ‘Altered State’ book that i am putting together is starting to take shape with about two thirds of the artists getting their work in. But it has been a challenge at times to nail down artists and get their contributions. But i’m sure the end product will outweigh these small issues. On the low down…It looks like i might be doing my first solo gallery show since 2004. It has been a while between drinks…but i will give further details as they get set in concrete.

I think that is about all the news to make public at the moment, so I hope everyone had a good new years and stay tuned as i start to slowly get back into it.

Below are a few recent works. Until next time…Enjoy! NF

Below are a few new pieces that i have been working on over this week. They are mashup images that seem to be heading more and more towards abstraction due to the sensory overload altering your ability to read their meanings. Basically experiments hand colouring and spraypainting on digital prints and breaking them up into fragments to dislocate them even further.

Fragments 1 (Arresting Thoughts)

Fragments 2 (Missed Call)

Both are little sets of four with hand coloured (25x25cm each frame)

(Ink, Watercolour, Spraypaint and Shelac) archival pigment prints.

And just a little bit of other news for the weekend, I spent a bit of time on sunday doing a few paste ups over at Armageddon Cakes in Geelong. Just a mixed bag of images getting pasted up with a few other local artists.

If you haven’t heard about about Armageddon Cakes it is basically a place where you can go at night time for a coffee and a cake. Basically an alternative to traditional bars and restaurants, open from 8pm till 11pm Thursday, Friday & Saturday Nights(Cool hours!). Friendly service, good coffee, retro decor, paste ups and very nice cakes…plus if you ask nicely i’m sure they will let you add to the paste up wall!

So drop in if your looking for something a little different…they are in McLarty Place in the Geelong CBD.

Apart from the fact that i started my big weekend on thursday with the Gordon Institute’s Grad Show, Friday night was the launch of ‘Pinned’ over at Boom Gallery. A crazy night where i somehow managed to sell 12 works…Yep, you read that correctly! Not what i was expecting…but more than happy to accept. 😉

Shots of the show @ Boom Gallery below…

A big thanks to Boom and those who continue to support my art by acquiring pieces!

So after having a big night in celebration, I had to be awake and up at Boxhill Hospital to give back to the community and do a makeover of their Adolecent Health Unit with a bunch of other melb artists bright and early. Organised by Doil over at the Melbourne Street Tours some of the other artists included the man himself Doil, Adi, Tad Evil, Rusty, Makatron and some of the boys from the Napier Crew. If there was any fear i was going to fall asleep during the day from the big night, that quickly went away due to the complete…and i mean complete soaking that i got on the way to the hospital.

Anyway, below are some pix from the day once the rain disappeared…

Above: A piece in progress I did with TAD using my Think Tank image.

Below: A couple of overview shots.

And below a couple of my fav pieces from the day, the first one by the boys from Napier Crew and the second by Makatron.

And finally below a few of my NoFrills cans have finally started to hit the streets…

On Sunday the madness continued with the scramble to get ready to go set up a table over at the Charles Street Artist’s Market over in Brunswick. A beautiful day in the sun, lots of great live music and good people. So keep your ear to the ground for the next market which I think is running monthly.

Phew…feel tired just retelling this. Think i will sleep well tonight.

Peace Out…NF!

As part of the Illumination project by Courthouse Arts in Geelong, one of my animations of mash up imagary, ‘Mind Control’ was projected large scale (Three Stories high!) onto Custom House in Geelong. It was a short Mash Up film culminating in the following images…

Always good to have a bit of large scale propaganda projected onto a public building!

Here are a couple of pieces i have thrown together lately. Kinda just experimenting at the moment with a few techniques.

NF branded can – Paster on canvas(60x70cm). Thinking i might hit this one with some resin next!

NF Skull Logo – stencil on canvas (60x60cm). Trying to sand this one back to give it an aged look.

USB skull – Stencil on Canvas (40x60cm). Just another variation on this stencil that i have had on here a few times.

Here is my new print, “Ceci n’est pas un Banksy”.  Sold a few of these over at the Sweet Streets festival. It’s just a bit of a piss take on how anything using a stencil is called a Banksy. What about Blek? …among others!

Anyway, this was originally made just as a tongue in cheek image for a friend…originally titled, “The treachery of copyright images”. Looks sweet in the flesh…a solid and lush deep flat blue to it.

Email me if you want one…going for about $70 AUD (plus postage).

Here is my first serious high quality digital print release. It’s a large archival pigment print on beautiful heavy weight Canson Paper. I have three other prints also about to be released over the next week so stay tuned. These will all be available on the Mechandise Desk at Sweet Streets HQ.

So from the Sweet Streets Award Show (8/10/2010) and over the sixteen days of the festival these will be available from 1000 Pound Bend in Melbourne for $90.

These are signed and numbered and in a small edition of only 25!

So get your hands on one quickly. If you can’t make it to the festival email me to get your hands on one. (email on my about page!)

I got my ‘Terrorists often wear suits’ image back from the framers yesterday. It’s the version pasted on the billposters that were taken down from Hosier lane recently. It one of my favs for a while as it looks really precious the way it has been framed, while still remaining very street in my opinion.

I also got some tees this week for a friend, one of which was the same image.

The mailbox was actually pretty full this week as i also got a pile of new stickers too.

What else…hmm…I also managed to drop into the semi-permanent show this week in melbs, well worth a look especially the piece by Beastman on the wall. Ghostpatrol has a new one on at No Vacancy QV which is awesome…go see his bizarre/tent thing…you feel like a kid again. And i spent friday night at 1000 pound bend seeing the ‘just another group show’…and then having a few…way too many over at the blender studios. Oh and went for a wander on the street art tour today which was fun times. I actually got to see a heap of art this week considering i have been super busy and up to 2am every night doing graphic design on the side. Anywho…

Peace out!
