Well it seems the last time I updated here was early January…not sure where Feb, March and April went?! Where does the time go?

Oh well…so what is new…

I have moved out of the Factory 21 studios into a new bigger studio…G-Cubed Studio.

So the move took some time over Jan, but we got there and the new space is now decked out and looking sweet. (Big props to Boom Gallery for fitting it out for us.)

The Powerhouse kicked off in Geelong at KNS, the old power station in North Geelong. I did a few pieces out there including a street based version of the Ritz as a straight up stencil.(Amazing piece by Adnate in the background!)

I took part in Summer Projects 2 at Boom Gallery pushing out some new graphic prints of urban scenes. I also got to show a colab I did with JoanneKemerer…being the tagged up head that she sculpted titled. ‘defaced’.

This was to mixed views…it seems people are going to miss it and wanted to see it it stay. But keeping in true form with street art, it was always going to be ephemeral. What goes up must come down. Thanks Geelong Gallery for having me.

Now we are well into the year, I just took part in Geelong After Dark last week doing a projection from Oxide Gallery in McLarty Place. It was a quick project…but it went off seamlessly once set up, which is always good. Thanks to Sue for the opportunity to base myself in her gallery, and Lou for adding me to the website at short notice. Note to self…must do paperwork!

Recently, I had my artwork featured on a wine label by Livewire Wines.(Image pinched from their insta…Thx Livewire Wines!). Haven’t got my hands on one yet, but i have had their wines before and they are very good…and this one is largely organic with just a small amount of sulphur for bottling. So one not to be missed. I think Union Street Wine bar are stocking it locally to Gtown, or contact Anthony at Livewire directly to get your hands on it.

On top of this I have some work in the next Boom Gallery exhibition…a stable group show(two solo shows opening the same night too!), opening Friday 15/5 at 5:30…so come along if your free. I have something new and a bit different for me on show around the theme of water…and a big work too.

I currently also have a few murals on the go in the background which could get the go ahead at any stage…but I will talk more once they are in real motion. So stay tuned.

I have another little solo exhibition ‘Zone 1’ coming up in the Little Window of Opportunity at Port Jackson Press in the second fortnight in June(Starts on the 16th). After the last show basically sold out…yay! I got the call back. So fingers crossed it goes well again. It is an inner Melbourne focus for the work this time, with areas that I have been very familiar with over the years or lived in.

Flyer below:

PJP DL flyer mockup 2015And in final news…only public last week. I have been selected as one of 15 emerging artists from around the country to take part in a series of exhibition for the first Australian Print Triennial in Mildura set for October this year. This was a real honour if you go over and have a look at the line-up.

So it looks like it is going to be a busy year ahead as well…while still working 5 days a week!

So lets see what develops next.

Thanks for the ongoing support,

NF

Over the weekend just gone David Dellafiora and myself ran a workshop on zines and making artists books at Cloverdale Community Centre. It was a fast paced day but over the day we did manage to produced issue two of Sporadic. It was a fun day enjoyed by all involved and we were very happy with the quality of the finished zine. I think there are a few more of these workshops still to come over November so stay tuned or keep an eye on Cloverdale’s Facebook page if making zines is your thing.

And while on the topic of Artists Books I saw a copy of the Artist’s Book Yearbook 2014-15 thanks to Dave, which happens to feature three of the books/zines that I have made recently. It was a pleasant surprise as flicking through the book I was unaware that they were in there!

and below are the pages with my work featured…including Altered State, Don’t feed the Humans and NWO. This publication is produced by the University of West England. It is 21 x 29.7 cm, 296 pages, black and white offset print. Published September 2013 by Impact Press, UWE Bristol ISBN 978-1-906501-07-5 and are available to order online here. It looks like a great resource book for anyone interested in this field.

There is also an excellent article on Field Study written by Sue Hartigan in the publication. So one more reason to get your hands on a copy!

In other news I have an invite to place some works in a show in Melbourne in December and have a few murals that are in negotiation with the city currently…more to come as they all get more concrete!

I did an interview with Weekly Review Magazine that may/or may not be coming out this week. So keep your eyes peeled! And over the last few weeks I have got back into the swing of making things with a new mash up zine ready to go to press and new paintings on the go. I have about ten new small mixed media paintings done now, and I am heading towards a new solo show at some point but nothing is set as yet. These new works are all on found wood supports and are capturing abandoned buildings and other landmarks in the region.

Below are the first two that I did: Erskins (Before the reno)

I think that about sums up the last month, or at least everything I haven’t already discussed on the blog previously. Stay tuned as it looks like it may be a busy few months between now and the end of the year.

Cheers,

NF

Here is a little shot(using my new toy…Fisheye lens!) of my work in situ at Boom Gallery as part of the Forest-s Exhibition put together by Tibor Novak. The opening was a full house…which was a surprise for a saturday arvo opening…but always a good thing! The show is on for a few weeks so if your in Newtown, pop in and have a browse as it is a pretty expansive show with a variety of artists and styles.

And below is a close up of my artwork in the show…

Here are my new paintings based on my ‘Terrorists often wear suits’ image that just recently went up in Rutledge/Hosier Lane. The terrorists wear a range of abstracted multinational logos on their suits. These are a bit experimental, being digital prints on a heavy weight canson watercolour paper with spray paint…and the odd bit of ink over top. Then a matt varnish top coat. I’m having a bit of fun with them…fun enough to drag me out to the workshop in this cold weather. Enjoy!

Still in it’s bubble wrap…

I just got my painting ‘Viaticus Radix Malus’ or in english, ‘Money is the root of all evil’ back from being framed. I think it looks very sexy. I opted away from my usual plain black minimal and modern looking frame for an ornate gilt or gold frame. I think the irony adds to the strength of the message in the image.

I have been a bit quiet on here of late, due to being a bit busy with various things…plus, it has been getting awfully cold outside in the studio while painting.  But here are a few paintings I have been working on. For something novel, the top two paintings have parts that were painted in glow in the dark paint!

Why do bad things happen to good people – Spray paint on Canvas (30x40cms) – 2010
